The prospect of living in Zimbabwe is something of a gamble at the current time, so you may think that there would be little affinity for going to Zimbabwe's gambling dens. In fact, it seems to be operating the opposite way, with the atrocious economic conditions leading to a bigger desire to play, to try and discover a fast win, a way from the problems.

For nearly all of the citizens surviving on the meager nearby wages, there are two established types of betting, the national lotto and Zimbet. Just as with almost everywhere else on the globe, there is a state lotto where the probabilities of succeeding are extremely tiny, but then the jackpots are also very large. It's been said by financial experts who understand the idea that many do not buy a card with a real expectation of winning. Zimbet is based on either the local or the English football leagues and involves predicting the results of future matches.

Zimbabwe's gambling halls, on the other foot, pander to the considerably rich of the nation and vacationers. Until recently, there was a very substantial tourist industry, built on safaris and visits to Victoria Falls. The market collapse and associated bloodshed have cut into this market.

Amongst Zimbabwe's gambling dens, there are 2 in the capital, Harare, the Carribea Bay Resort and Casino, which has 5 gaming tables and slots, and the Plumtree gambling hall, which has just the slot machines. The Zambesi Valley Hotel and Entertainment Center in Kariba also has just one armed bandits. Mutare contains the Monclair Hotel and Casino and the Leopard Rock Hotel and Casino, the pair of which have table games, slot machines and video poker machines, and Victoria Falls has the Elephant Hills Hotel and Casino and the Makasa Sun Hotel and Casino, both of which have slot machines and table games.

In addition to Zimbabwe's gambling dens and the aforementioned mentioned lottery and Zimbet (which is quite like a pools system), there are a total of two horse racing complexes in the country: the Matabeleland Turf Club in Bulawayo (the 2nd city) and the Borrowdale Park in Harare.

Given that the economy has diminished by beyond forty percent in the past few years and with the associated poverty and crime that has cropped up, it is not known how well the vacationing business which is the backbone of Zimbabwe's casinos will do in the next few years. How many of the casinos will carry on until conditions improve is simply unknown.
